The Original Palapa was built in 1989. This past May 2008 a Tornado destroyed it - and I have to tell you it was like loosing part of the family. This time a tree called Chico Sapote was used. This is one of the strongest woods in the world and very hard to find. It was found, selected and cut one by one in the Rain Forest in the area between Campeche and Quintana Roo about 220Km south of The Rivera Maya /Cancun . |
